FAQ
Tavra restaurant AI phone FAQ
Concise answers about Tavra's restaurant phone workflows, to-go orders, secure checkout, reservations, integrations, pilots, demo behavior, and restaurant-controlled configuration.
- What is Tavra?
- Tavra is a restaurant AI phone operations platform that answers calls and helps move callers into workflows such as orders, reservations, custom answers, routing, notes, and staff notifications.
- Is Tavra a generic chatbot?
- No. Tavra is designed around restaurant phone workflows, not generic chatbot conversations.
- Can Tavra take to-go orders?
- Yes. Tavra takes to-go orders over the phone, answers menu questions, handles modifiers and caller corrections, reads the order back, supports secure checkout, and creates an Operations record for staff.
- Can Tavra handle reservations?
- Yes. Tavra collects party size, date, time, guest name, callback number, notes, allergies, and special requests. Restaurants can use Tavra's Native Reservation Book and choose whether Tavra confirms, stores, or routes reservation requests according to their rules.
- Does Tavra replace staff?
- No. Tavra handles the phone work restaurants configure it to handle, then routes exceptions, manager requests, staff questions, and edge cases through live handoff routes or Operations records.
- Can Tavra transfer calls to a human?
- Yes. Tavra supports configurable live handoff routes such as manager and host stand routes. The restaurant controls which routes are enabled, where they ring, and when calls should transfer.
- Does Tavra integrate with POS systems?
- Tavra currently supports Clover and Square workflows in the app. Provider-specific order submission, payment, and printer behavior depends on the restaurant's configured account and supported setup. Other provider paths should be treated as future or approval-dependent unless Tavra marks them active for that restaurant.
- Does Tavra process payments?
- Yes. Tavra can move phone orders through secure checkout before submission. The public web demo can simulate checkout and should not be used to enter real card details.
- Is Tavra available for pilots?
- Tavra is preparing restaurant pilots. Operators can request a demo through the public website.
- How does the demo work?
- The web demo lets visitors configure a sample restaurant phone agent, choose a voice, review a sample menu, place a demo call, and inspect the after-call Operations view. Demo behavior is isolated from real restaurant accounts.
- What happens if internet service or a connected system is unavailable during a call?
- Tavra's call handling runs from Tavra's cloud runtime, so a restaurant's local outage does not by itself stop Tavra from answering. Tavra separates the failure cases. If store devices are offline but the provider cloud is reachable, Tavra submits the order to the provider cloud and tracks kitchen print status separately as requested, queued, pending, unknown, failed, or skipped based on provider response. If the provider API is unavailable or authorization is broken, Tavra saves the order in Operations for staff follow-up and can use the restaurant's System Fallbacks setting to offer a live handoff or pause affected ordering. If a printer is offline after the POS accepts the order, the order remains submitted and only the kitchen print status is tracked or flagged for staff review.
- Can Tavra handle live inventory changes?
- Yes. Tavra supports restaurant-managed availability controls through the Operations 86 Board. A permitted manager or team member can mark a specific menu item unavailable, or enter an ingredient or modifier that is out of stock. Tavra previews affected dishes using menu names, descriptions, and modifier data, then removes those affected items from the voice agent for the selected period or until staff clears the 86. Fully automatic real-time stock updates still depend on a connected, current inventory source for that restaurant account.
- How does Tavra handle complex modifiers or caller changes during an order?
- Tavra is built for spoken restaurant ordering. It can work through menu items, required modifiers, optional modifiers, substitutions, corrections, and readbacks instead of treating every order as a flat note.
- What causes Tavra to transfer a call, and what context does staff receive?
- Tavra transfers when the restaurant's configured handoff routes and call context call for a human. Calls, orders, reservations, voicemails, and follow-up states are visible in Operations so staff can review what happened.
- How does Tavra handle accents or noisy calls?
- Tavra asks clarifying questions, confirms important order and reservation details, reads critical information back, and can route calls to staff when the conversation needs a human.
- How does Tavra pricing work?
- Tavra is offering pilot access. Public pricing should be read as pilot pricing only; final terms depend on the restaurant's locations, call volume, workflows, and secure checkout or provider setup.
- Can managers update menus, custom answers, and FAQs themselves?
- Yes. Tavra's Configure screen supports restaurant-controlled settings, including menu sync/manual menu setup, reservation rules, handoff routes, kitchen printing, and customizable Other Caller Questions such as hours, events, catering, gift cards, lost and found, complaints, jobs, and more.
